Sarawak Tourism Board Signs Strategic Tripartite Campaign Agreement 2024, Boosting Global Connectivity And Positioning Sarawak As A Premier Bleisure Destination

Singapore, 22nd October, 2024 – Keeping up the momentum from Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) exciting “Gateway to Borneo” campaign at ITB Berlin earlier this year, STB was proud to sign a Tripartite Campaign Agreement with strategic partner Scoot and Sarawak Trade and
Tourism Office (STATOS) in Singapore. The event marked a pivotal step in promoting Sarawak’s diverse offerings and further enhancing its visibility across the global tourism landscape. In collaboration with Business Events Sarawak (BE Sarawak) and STATOS, STB proudly hosted the Sarawak Bleisure Networking Session, positioning Sarawak as an ideal “bleisure” destination on the world map especially here in Singapore.

This strategic partnership aims to strengthen inbound travel from Singapore into Sarawak with 14 weekly flights operated by Scoot, an increase from 10 weekly flights in 2022. This would promote the region’s cultural and adventure tourism attractions while driving greater traffic to these key destinations from Singapore. The collaboration highlights STB’s ongoing commitment to create opportunities for cultural exchanges, business collaborations, and knowledge sharing, further cementing Sarawak’s role as a leading gateway to Borneo.

YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Minister of Tourism Performing Arts and in his speech, said, “Sarawak and Singapore share a long-standing relationship, one built on mutual respect, cultural exchanges, and economic collaboration. This partnership is about
harnessing Singapore’s global influence and its role as a crossroads for international travel and business, allowing us to amplify Sarawak’s unique offerings to the world.” He further added, “Through meaningful partnerships like these, we strengthen our position as one of the rising destinations in Southeast Asia. And through this partnership, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainability, responsible tourism and stronger regional ties.”

STB CEO, Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor expressed her optimism about the partnership, stating, “This Tripartite agreement reflects our shared vision of enhancing Sarawak’s accessibility while providing travellers with seamless opportunities to experience our diverse culture and adventure offerings. Together with Scoot and STATOS, we are making it easier for visitors to explore the best of Sarawak.”

Mr Calvin Chan, Chief Commercial Officer of Scoot said,” We are pleased to enter into this Tripartite agreement with STB and STATOS. This renewed partnership reaffirms Scoot’s commitment to enhancing connectivity between Sarawak, Singapore, and the rest of our extensive network, providing a seamless travel experience at great value, giving travellers convenient access to experience the diverse attractions that Sarawak is known for.” The Sarawak Bleisure Networking Session served as a platform not only to promote Sarawak’s tourism products but also to foster collaboration between Sarawak beyond the tourism industry.

The event brought together travel professionals, tour operators, media representatives, and potential business partners to explore Sarawak’s growing appeal as a destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). Attendees were introduced to the extensive support services offered by BE Sarawak and STATOS, further boosting Sarawak’s reputation on the international stage.

Representatives from Paradesa Borneo, CPH Travel Services, Mutama Holidays, Journey Travel Agencies, Borsarmulu Park Management, Brighton Travel and Tour, Pullman Hotels, and others showcased Sarawak’s diverse tourism products. These offerings ranged from eco-tourism and cultural immersion to exciting adventure tours, presenting the state as an ideal destination for travelers seeking both work and play.

The Sarawak Bleisure Networking Session also underscored Sarawak’s dedication to sustainable tourism, aligning with global trends in business travel where professionals seek destinations that offer cultural and natural experiences alongside workspaces. With Sarawak targeting 4 million visitors in 2024, the efforts made in Singapore including the up-coming ITB Asia are expected to play a significant role in driving tourism to the region. With its pristine rainforests, rich cultural heritage, and modern business venues, Sarawak continues to stand out as an exceptional destination for those looking to combine work with leisure.
