Sarawak To Pursue Responsible Tourism

KUALA LUMPUR– The Sarawak State government is pushing Responsible Tourism  as part of its responsibility to make tourism business sustainable and viable.

Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg said that “By understanding the nature of Sarawak’s tourism setting, product portfolio and its fragile eco-system, it is only fitting to practise Responsible Tourism to ensure that Sarawak is a better place for visitors to visit and local people benefiting for the business.”

The Chief Minister was speaking at the welcoming dinner for delegates of the World Tourism Conference at The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on August 26. 

“Responsible Tourism minimises negative economic, environmental and social impacts, while generating greater economic benefits for the local people and enhances the well-being of the host communities in improving working conditions and access to the industry” he added.

He said the State’s Tourism promotional campaign, the Visit Sarawak Campaign, is highlighting key themes of Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food, and Festival (CANFF) and is more focused on local people, aimed at generating better tourism business and ensuring that visitors having the best of what the State has to offer.
