The 22nd Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari will be taking place this April 1 and 2 along the Majau and Rejang River.
This two-day rafting competition has five main categories: Men’s Bamboo Open, Men’s Bamboo Closed (Inter-Department) and Women’s Bamboo Open, as well as the mixed Free Style and Paddle Boat.
The first flag-off point is at Rumah Ansi, Nanga Sepajie at Sungai Majau, and the second flag-off point is at Rumah Along at Nanga Majau, and each flag-off is estimated to take six to seven hours respectively.
This event is to remind people of the importance of water transport in the past of Sarawak as well as the present, particularly in places where road networks have not yet reached.
This year, the Borneo Jazz Festival will take place on May 12 and 13 in Miri City, and is being held, as always, at the ParkCity Everly Hotel.
The festival features a wide array of Jazz-subgenres with both international and home grown musicians taking the stage.
In 2017 we celebrate the 12th Borneo Jazz Festival and will introduce an expanded musical outreach programme, with classes on jazz percussions and keyboard for aspiring Jazz musicians and Jazz enthusiasts.
The Samarahan Bike Challenge 2017 will take place on March 19, at the Summer Mall at Jalan Datuk Mohd. Musa, Kota Samarahan about 25km from Kuching City Centre.
This Bike Challenge is one of the biggest bicycle racing events in Sarawak, with categories such as the Elite or ‘The Road Warrior’, Veteran or ‘All Star’, Sarawak Close, Ladies and Juniors, and routes varying from four to eight kilometers.
This annual event is jointly organised by the Divisional Tourism Task Group (DTTG), the Samarahan District Office and the Sarawak Cycling Association.
The Sibu 2017 Tower Run will take place on March 11 with some 300 registered runners participating.
The contestants will be running an initial 5-kilometre route before racing up the staircase of the 28-story, 126m high Wisma Sanyan building, otherwise known as the Sibu Tower, which is the tallest building in Sarawak.
The Tower Run is one of the biggest sports attraction in Sibu, as it pushes the limit of endurance and speed of the runners, with many participants returning to beat their own records from previous years.
The Tower Run is jointly organised by DNA Sports and the Sibu Municipal Council.
April has become the month of the Frog for UNIMAS, as they will be holding six programmes for varying ages focusing on the awareness and conservation of Sarawak jungle frogs, from April 21 to 29, with the highlight event being the Sixth International Bornean Frog Race.
These programmes begin with the UNIMAS Frog Race Run on April and the Exhibition of the World’s Largest Collection of Amphibian Stamps on April 26 at the UNIMAS New Campus.
On April 27 there will be an Indo-Pacific Amphibian Symposium at UNIMAS’ DeTar Auditorium as well.
The Frog Races, beginning with the Junior Programme for primary school children secondary school children, take place on April 28 and 29 respectfully at Gunung Gading National Park, Lundu.
The Sixth International Bornean Frog Race takes place on April 29 at the Gunung Gading National Park and is open to 150 participants only.

The Borneo Jazz Festival 2017 is being held on May 12 to 13, at the ParkCity Everly Hotel in Miri.
The Festival comes back better than ever with a new line up of Jazz stars from around the world for a feel-good night of good listening, good eating and good company.
This is the 12th instalment of the Borneo Jazz Festival, which has become a staple festival for Miri, with families from Miri and Brunei coming back year after year with their children and family for a weekend of relaxing Jazz music.
This 20th anniversary of the Rainforest World Music Festival takes place on July 14 to 16 and will be unlike any other, with 20% off of early bird prices beginning this January 20.
“It’s a show of gratitude to our most loyal festival attendees, who come year after year with their children and friends. We wanted to give back to them somehow, and we want them to be there with us on this momentous occasion,” said Director of Events and Corporate Relations, Madam Angelina Patricia Bateman when she announced the promotion.
While the usual attractions such as the Crafts Bazaar, musical and art workshops and nightly performances remain unchanged, there is a possibility of more plans in store for the Festival this year.

Registration for the Borneo Mountain Bike (MTB) Challenge and City Ride 2017 in Bintulu, is now open till January 15, and once more participants from abroad will be in attendance.
The MTB Challenge takes place on February 26 beginning at Wisma Bintulu, and is organised by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).
The five categories for the MTB Challenge are the men’s open, men’s veteran, junior boy (below 19), closed men and ladies open with distances and difficulty varying, while the City Ride, which is a non-competitive part of the event, is 55 km long which will be held on February 25.
Both the MTB Challenge and the City ride have RM100 per-registration and all participants receive jersey, finisher medal, bike tag, goodies bag and stand the chance to win lucky draws.

The fifth edition of Colour Rush is expected to have some 8000 participants in Kuching on February 18 and in Miri on February 19, beating its yearly 5000 participants average.
The Colour Rush is held annually by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) to commemorate International Childhood Cancer Day on February 15 and to raise funds for the medical treatment of Sarawakian children diagnosed with cancer.
The registration has been open since December 4, 2016, and has shown incredible promise of hitting the 8000 participant mark in the Colour Rush by the time registration ends on January 25.
To encourage registration, the SCCS held a special promotion where the first 50 participants to register before December 31 receive special t-shirts and a voucher.
